World-standard junior class to make debut as precursor for 2004 seasonCHILLIWACK, B.C. - The Snap-on Champ Car Stars of Tomorrow presented by RACER announced today an exhibition race for the Junior Intercontinental A (JICA) class which will be part of Stars' standard class structure in 2004. "Stars held a similar exhibition race for ICA at the end of last season and we've had good success with the class this year," said Stars Marketing Director Glenn Holland. "The JICA race during our national event in September gives competitors a chance to preview the package and is a showcase of sorts for what we hope will be a strong class in junior competition in 2004 and beyond." JICA is a CIK-homologated 100cc air-cooled engine formula used worldwide, including Canada. The formula will make its official debut with Stars of Tomorrow in 2004. The JICA exhibition will feature over $1,000 in prizes and will be held as a part of the Stars national event race weekend with Friday practice and separate race days Saturday and Sunday at the CARTBC track in Chilliwack, British Columbia, September 12-14, 2003. "We are excited about the inclusion of JICA at the Chilliwack event and with Stars in 2004," said George Rickman of Genesis Racing in Burnaby, British Columbia. "This class has a good following in Canada and the competition and racing is very close. It will be a great opportunity for those interested in the class to participate or even observe the nature of this racing." Entries are open to all competitors, provided they meet the age requirements for a junior class per Stars regulations (generally 12-15 years). Entry fee is $125 and there is no membership requirement for Stars of Tomorrow. Tire rules will follow regional requirements to make is easier for the competitors. Tire choice will be limited to Bridgestone YHC, Vega SL5, MG Yellow MZ, Dunlop SL4, DAH, or DBH. Please note that the rear tire size is 6.5. Minimum kart weight will be 135 kilograms, or 298 pounds per CIK regulations.
