Stumpf shuts out the competition at the Burris Circle Tour Purple Shootout

LAKE GENEVA, WI - Alex Stumpf shut out the competition at the Burris Circle Tour in the 8th running of the Purple Shootout, a race highlighting the skills of the Jr.1 Lite Class. The Jr. 1 Lite class runs a Briggs & Stratton power plant with a purple restrictor plate and most of the drivers have 1-2 years of racing experience. During today's event, Stumpf earned the pole as the top qualifier, won the trophy dash and waged a hard fought battle with Cory Talaska in the Feature. Then, for good measure, Alex also took home the top prize in Jr. 2 Lite edging out Aaron Katzenberg at the line.

In addition to Stumpf, winners in the Purple Shootout Trophy Dash were Cory Talaska, Derrick Gough and Caylie Duncanson. In the second dash, Matthew Holzgraf, Andy Jones, Zach Witek and Stephanie Schumacher were the top finishers.

The closest racing of the day was seen in the Jr. Sportsman Champ and Jr. 3 Lite classes. Each class filled the field and the track, going 4,5 or 6 wide around the banked turns at Lake Geneva Raceway. The girls, Mackenzie Piller and Rachael Pinkerman ran out in front of the Jr. Sportsman Champ class until the last inches when Colton Clevenger slipped through a hole on the inside to win by 3/10ths of a second. Dylan Barbosa and Tyler Blume rounded out the top 5 for the class.

A wheel-to-wheel battle raged in Jr. 3 Lite as 6 previous feature winners vied for the top spot. Points leader, Jordan Thiel took the lead in the early going. Nick Chiapetta ran side-by-side for almost 13 laps before finally making a pass stick coming to the flag stand. At the stripe, Chiapetta was out in front, Thiel, Adam Carlson,Mason Hadley and Zach Axlen were in second through fifth respectively.

Jeff Everts won his first feature of the year in Sr. Lite, Brandon Eash was first in Sr. Heavy and Shane Morrissey doubled up winning both the Sr. Medium feature and F200 feature. Matt Scott took a close one from Ryan Marshall in the Jr. Champs, and Aaron Phillips beat Jim Maher for the Sr. Champ trophy. Stan Guess repeated his win of last week in the Sr. Sportsman Class, Eric Frieberg continued to dominate the Sr. Yamahas, and Morgan Shissel won the Kid Kart Feature.
