1-2 finish for Adam Carlson Racing

LAKE GENEVA, WI - Adam Carlson Racing entered two karts in the Burris Pro Kart division class that ran in the rescheduled Fall Classic/Small Car Championships at Lake Geneva Raceway on Saturday, Oct. 4th. Adam raced his primary kart, a Phantom Nemesis with a SBR Powerplants Briggs 5hp engine and Jeff Everts ran the second kart, a 2000 Ultramax Proforce with a "That Guy Engines" Briggs. The pair set-up their own karts and were able to practice a good part of the day to prepare for the evening race under the lights at the speedway.

" I was a little slower than Jeff in practice, but we kept working on the kart and at he end of the practice session Jeff and I were almost equal " Adam said.

The race format would be a three-minute group qualifying session instead of 2 lap individual runs, a ten-lap heat race with inverted qualifying order, and a fifteen-lap feature race based on the qualifying order. All the karts have an AMB electronic transponder system that is used for scoring and recording lap times.

" We knew that karts that drafted together would be faster, so Jeff and I held back a little before going out on the track and stayed together nose to tail," said Adam.

The strategy paid off, Jeff had fast time and Adam was just one hundredth of a second behind with the second fastest time. It was an impressive sight seeing the two karts with identical bright paint schemes running together. The pair had to start at the back for the heat and made their way to the front. Jeff won and Adam came in fourth. The feature race was very exciting, Jeff took an early lead and Billy Hulbert got a jump on Adam and was running second with Adam right on his tail. The two drafted up to Jeff and Adam passed Hulbert for the second spot. On the last corner of the last lap Adam went to pass Jeff and Billy went low to pass Adam. The three raced down the straightaway for the checkers three wide, it was to close to call, and the transponders told the finish. Jeff had won, Adam was second by two thousands of a second and Hulbert was third by just inches. The three were separated by only one hundredth of a second. A very exciting finish under the lights at Lake Geneva Raceway!
