Extreme Karting has phenomenal weekend at SKUSA opener
ANAHEIM, CA (May 16, 2003) - After a fantastic start to the 2003 season, with factory drivers Alan Sciuto and Jason Bowles on a hot streak; Extreme Karting ventured north to picturesque Sonoma, California for the opening round of the SKUSA ProMoto Championship.
With entries in every premiere class of the event, Extreme Karting had good representation amongst a stout field of national level competitors.
Young phenom Alan Sciuto continued his dominance in the hotly contested ICC class by lining up off pole for Saturday's race. Suffering from a severe flu all weekend, Sciuto was able to win the pre-final but unable to compete in the main. Jason Bowles had a phenomenal race and landed Extreme Karting on the podium yet again with a solid drive to second. Owner / Driver Tom Kutscher qualified well in the G1 class and led the main until an on track incident ended his run for the win. Las Vegas hot shoe, Matt Jaskol, had an exciting race in SuperPro but contact with Alan Rudolph knocked him out of contention.
Sunday's racing brought more of signs of promise for the Anaheim based kart shop. Alan Sciuto, still battling illness, qualified a respectable third in ICC with Bowles lining up in tenth spot. Bowles, in characteristic fashion, marched his TM powered CRG to the front, narrowly missing out on another podium finish. Tom Kutscher led in G1 yet again, only to be thwarted by engine problems. Matt Jaskol made good on Saturday's mishap to land his first podium finish of 2003 with a strong drive to second in SuperPro.
Extreme's future racing plans at this point are in question. With the two American national level series at odds with one another, it appears the team may be divided with conflicting events drawing near. "It's a shame," remarked Tom Kutscher. "The sport needs all the fast guys in one location. It troubles me deeply to know some of my drivers might be forced to run on their own, at different locations.
