Extreme Karting emerges successful on both sides of the countryANAHEIM, CA - The 2003 racing season got underway in dramatic fashion for Extreme Karting, with its factory drivers finding their way on to the podium no less than four times in both regions of the country.
Extreme Karting's newest team member, Jason Bowles, made the long trek east to attend the hotly contested SKUSA ProMoto Eastern division race. Bowles emerged among the quickest in both the dry and wet sessions, qualifying and finishing just outside the top five in Saturday's race. For Sunday, Bowles shined in wet conditions, narrowly missing the pole by a mere .098 seconds. In the heat race and main event, Jason drove impeccably, earning his first SKUSA ProMoto podium of the 2003 season. Closer to home for the Orange County based kart shop, Extreme Karting's factory team ventured to the SKUSA Mission Region race in preparation for the opening west coast ProMoto round just weeks away. Team owner/driver Tom Kutscher, running the G1 class aboard a Darcy DeCoste tuned, Honda powered CRG, started a trend for his team by finishing second in a fiercely battled main event. Shortly after, Kutscher had the pleasure of watching his drivers emerge dominant in nearly every class entered. Alan Sciuto, running a Swedetech powered CRG Road Rebel, decimated the ICC field taking the pole and winning both the heat and main event by over 5 seconds. Only minutes after, the 14 year old Sciuto jumped into his Swedetech prepared moto package to do it all over again.
Long time karting veteran, Shayne Shipley, took the pole for the S1 and SuperPro combined race aboard his newly acquired Darcy Decoste tuned Honda CRG. Shipley marched away with the win in the pre final and started off the main in similar fashion. Sciuto, who was relegated to starting in the back due to a transponder malfunction, put on a one man show. Picking off kart after kart, Sciuto reeled in the distant Shipley in a performance seldom rivaled in karting. Alan obliterated the track record in the process, rounding the circuit in just 52.508 seconds (unofficially),. Sciuto finished just inches behind the victorious Shipley. The two were all smiles at the scales as Sciuto officially won S1 and Shipley the SuperPro winner, respectively. "It was fantastic," remarked a jubilated Kutscher. "Our team had an amazing weekend and Iım so proud of all my drivers. I think we showed today that regardless of region or engine package - we're capable of winning." With the west coast rounds in both the CART Stars of Tomorrow and the SKUSA ProMoto tour rapidly approaching, Extreme Karting is poised to deliver solid results. Extreme Karting is Southern California's premiere shop for shifter kart racing parts and accessories. Founded in 1999 by Tom Kutscher, Extreme Karting has evolved into one of the nation's most respected kart shops and race teams, including being awarded the 2002 Shifter Kart Team of the Year award. |
