Colorado Sprint Championships series off to great 2003 startENGLEWOOD, CO - The Shockwave Karting Colorado Sprint Championships just keeps getting bigger. The first race held at the new Grand Junction Motor Speedway was a very successful event. Attended by 88 entries, most classes enjoyed quality fields with intense but clean racing. The next event will be held May 18 at IMI in Dacono, Colorado. By all early indicators, this event will be larger and more prestigious than the first. The series continues to draw top talent in the pro class. Alan Rudolph joined the series for the first race, the National Number 9 Super Pro driver "Joltin" Joe Janowski joins us for the second race. Challenging Joe will be Super Pro driver and National Number 12, A.J. Noud (former SuperNationals winner). Track record holder and SP driver Ryan Bailey will be behind the wheel of his Birel ICC with two more local SP drivers Travis Roberts and Dustin Courter trying to get their karts ready to do battle. Other local drivers to watch out for include Jeff Welch, who won the Barrie PMT in K1 and earned National Number 6 in that class, Kyle Ray who earned National Number 8 in K1 last year on the SKUSA Pro Moto Tour and Brandon Scarberry, 2 time winner of the SKUSA SuperNationals in FMX. Brandon certainly knows his way around the IMI track as he is the current track champion. Super G1 drivers Sam Walls and Stacey Cook should also be factors. Combine all this with several fast locals like Colin McGregor and Chris Perme, and you have one very fast field. The very best racers the state has to offer will be here for this race. The talent runs deep in Colorado, in the 80 junior class, we expect a large field of at least 14 drivers including multi IKF Duffy winner Adrian "Ace" Carrio and former SuperNationals champion (60 shifter) Greg Welch. The senior/heavy class should be a large one with over 20 drivers. While these guys may have plenty of gray hair, they certainly haven't slowed on the track. While the Tag class drew a good field of 20 racers in Grand Junction, it will draw even more at IMI with the potential for it to be the largest field with 30 racers. The year end prize fund continues to grow and currently stands at over $4,000. By season end, we expect to have around $10,000 to be distributed to the racers. Associate sponsors are still being accepted and those interested should contact Doug Welch with Shockwave Karting at 303-781-7829. Classes to be run are: Team Fury Pro 125, The Grand Junction Motor Speedway Novice 125, The McGrath Motorsports Senior 125, Team Carrio 80 Junior, The Colorado Karter 60 novice, KartMonster.com TAG Senior, The Billet Performance TAG Junior, NKA Junior 2, Jake of All Trades Junior 1, Action Karting at Bandimere Modified Senior 4-Cycle, IMI Senior Stock 4-Cycle, Stoney Creek Motorsports Kid Karts.
