Seasoned SuperPro veterans and a list of S1 standouts take on the ProMoto Tour

DUBLIN, OH - With the 2003 SKUSA ProMoto Tour season on the horizon, a strong list of entries have already come out of the woodwork to try their hand at SKUSA's SuperPro class. The moto engine based platform has become a signature program in SKUSA's ProMoto Tour in recent years and earns wide spread support from some of shifterkarting's top racers.

While some of 2002's top SuperPro drivers are still solidifying their deals, many drivers and teams are locked in and ready to compete. 1999 Moto World Champion, Jason LaPoint has already claimed allegiance to the ProMoto Tour as well as perennial front-runner and National #9, Joe Janowski.

"I think I may be one of the few that is already 100% committed to this program," said LaPoint, running for Leading Edge and Banke in 2003. "The schedule is perfect for our program. Our goals are to campaign the ProMoto West, Norman and the SuperNats so our focus is on the SuperPro title."

"Since selling Fury Imports, I have refocused on the one thing besides my family that is most important to me - to win the Moto World Championship," said Janowski. "We already have a great team assembled and we will finally be able to give it a proper effort."

One of the hottest drivers on the tour, Ron White, is also excited about returning for at least a few events. While many top SuperPro drivers may be running limited schedules and utilizing 2002 successes as a springboard to car racing (Ron White and 2002 Moto World Champ, Phil Carlson) other teams are currently already testing their drivers in preparation for the season openers.

One of the leading ProTour teams, Sonoma, CA's KLS Racing, sees having drivers that are 100% committed to the Tour as an advantage. The duo of Alex Speed and Gary Carlton are already logging track time.

"We plan on having Gary run the entire East and West Tours and really go for Rookie of the Year honors," said Scott Jeffery, KLS Racing owner. "We have high hopes for both drivers. Alex will run the entire Western Tour and make a challenge for the SuperPro championship. We are really confident heading into the season."

One of the biggest changes of scenery may be the number of rookie SuperPro drivers, making the move up from the Formula S1 class. Many drivers will be after the Rookie of the Year title to carry into their second year in SuperPro in 2004. Joining young drivers such as APD's Ben Petter and KLS Racing's Carlton also will be Matt Jaskol, who will join Joe White on Extreme Kartingšs strong race winning program.

"I just signed with Extreme to make a bid for the SuperPro title," said Jaskol. "We have an awesome team and great motor program so Joe and I both have a great shot at the championship."

With the early buzz already associated to who is going where for 2003, more and more drivers continue to follow suit with their race programs. Kyle Martin, Alan Rudolph and '00 champ, Bobby Wilson will most likely make either full-time or part time appearances on the ProTour, with plans yet to be 100% finalized.
