North Texas Karters turn up the Heat By Janice Bond of PR2DAY DENTON, TX - It may have been cold and dreary outside, but the heat was on during North Texas Karters (NTK) final race day of the Polar Bear Series held Saturday, February 15 at Denton, Texas. The cool weather and head -to- tail racing made for close competition in all classes. The track itself is an impressive 1/3-mile including 9 turns with some banking, 3-wide racing in turn one, and a one-line chicane making up turns 4 and 5. The flat, smooth surface of the straights provided for flat-out racing at its best. "We're proud of our Club," says Rod Heslor, the President of NTK. "We have about 262 members made up of guys and gals ranging in age from 5 to 40+ years. We have one main goal, and that is to enjoy clean and competitive fun. NTK is located in Denton, Texas off I-35 and Memory Lane, and attracts racers from as far away as Oklahoma. It is a family-oriented club that provides an opportunity for karters of all ages to socialize, compete and just have a good time. The Club produces many talented and skilled racers, including Brandon Irwin, who made the jump from karting and caught a ride in the IRL series in 2001. The track provides back straight grandstands, concession trailers, track lighting and gravel parking lots, making it comfortable and enjoyable for all.
