Las Vegas Kart Club track improvements doneLAS VEGAS, NV - The Las Vegas Kart Club held its first race of the 2003 season on 9 Feb at their club built track in the Las Vegas Motor Speedway complex. Over $10,000 in track repairs were done during the winter break by the club members and J. Stewart Concrete. The members did the demolition of 180 feet of the front straight, including all the major bumps in the fast area, and 80 feet of track between turns seven and eight where the track had settled due to unknown organics buried under that area before the track was built. When all the final grades were set, J. Stewart Concrete's crew came in for framing and final leveling. They used a laser screed to assure a flat surface and did an excellent job. That section of the front straight sees speeds of 80+ MPH in the 125 Shifter class. Before the repairs most karts actually came slightly off the ground over the bumps. Now, after the repairs, their sidepods don't even bounce let alone any airtime. All the racers said they were very happy with the repairs in both areas. Dave Choquette, Vice President and Construction Coordinator, was quoted as saying "I race in the 125 Shifter class and I know I was able to move my brake point 8'-10' deeper entering turn one because the kart is not upset from the bumps anymore."
