First wins and photo finishes for Badger By Erin Cechal DOUSMAN, WI - June brought thrills, spills, and several fast times to Badger Raceway this weekend. The day started out a bit rocky with a few bad red flag crashes in both the Kid Kart and Senior Sportsman Heavy classes. Fortunately all the drivers involved were able to walk away, and the day was clear of any other red flags. During the Jr. Can feature race, Bianca Schreiber and Jacob Eggemeier had a great battle for 2nd in Junior Can. Once Schreiber got around Eggemeier she set her sights on leader Grant Hoffmeister. The result was a photo finish with Grant coming out on top by only 7 thousandths of a second. Junior SSX can had an equally exciting finish when Kyle Gluth crossed the finish line a mere 6 thousandths ahead of Jerry Girard to take 3rd. 2-Cycle Junior Sportsman had some intense opening laps. Thanks to a good pace set by the front row the entire field of 17 karts made it through the first turn side by side. The next couple of laps all kart were nose to tail, but in the end it was Patrick Olsen on top. Karts were moving fast all day. Fast times were set in Senior Sportsman Heavy by Steve Mente, in Junior SSX by Joe Brenner, in Yamaha Lite by Matt Cota, in Junior Briggs by Derek Crane and in Briggs Heavy by Mike Landeck. Mike Mueller captured his first HPV feature win of the season this weekend. Scott Kalish took second, but not without some pressure from Nicole Baier who ended up 3rd. Finally, it was a memorable day for Heather Sotelo who grabbed her first feature win at Badger when she beat out the rest of the Senior Sportsman Lite field. Congratulations Heather!
