South Bend Raceway Park announces 2003 schedule SOUTH BEND, IN - The South Bend Raceway Park Schedule is set for 2003. Leading the list of races at this prestigious Midwest track is the local Michiana Kart Klub. MKK's 12 race series starts April 13th. April 13th - Race 1* May 4th - Race 2 18th - Race 3* June - 1st Race 4 June 28th - Race 5* - Darin Jerome Memorial Race July 20th - Race 6 August 10th - Race 7 - Mid-Season Double Points Two Cycle Classes 24th - Race 8 - Mid-Season Double Points Four Cycle Classes September 7th - Race 9* 21st - Race 10 28th - Race 11* Ocotber 12th - Race 12 - Season Championship Race Double Points Normally the Mid-Season, Double Points, Championship Race is Race 6, this year because of Regional and National Races in the Midwest the Mid-Season race is being held on 2 different dates for 2 and 4 cycle classes. This will allow the large number of MKK members who run these series to compete at the Regional and National levels and not hurt there MKK Series Points Run. MKK uses the best 9 finishes out of the 12 race series to determine local champions. For the 2 and 4 cycle classes on the date opposite of their respective Mid-Season date they will run a qualifying heat and a 20 lap feature. In an effort to mix up the race day formats races 1, 3, 5, 9, and 11 are qualifying days (*), Races 2, 4, 6, and 10 have starting line-ups determined by computer draw. Mid-Season and Season Championship starting grids are determined by points standings with visitors starting the 10 lap heat behind local club members. The 15 lap feature is set by the finishing order of the heat. MKK has used this format for itıs 2 bonus points races of the year since 1998, with great success. In addition to the MKK Series the following dates have been confirmed for other series events at SBRP; June 20-21 - Midwest Sprint Series - WKA Regional Event July 3-6 - WKA Horstman Gold Cup National Event July 25-27 -- SKUSA Great Lakes Region September 12-14 - Great Lakes Sprint Series - WKA Regional Event As always the race season at South Bend Raceway Park is filled with local, regional and national level racing. Open practice is available on most other weekends. While this schedule has been confirmed with all of the series visiting South Bend last minute adjustments do happen. SBRP will also participate in the 2003 Track Challenge with other Midwest tracks and series. This is the 3rd year for this event which brings together the best racers in the Midwest to battle for Track of the Year.
