'Trane' purchases naming rights to Norway SpeedwaySHERIDAN, IL - Intense Karting announced today a formal partnership with Trane, a business of American Standard Companies (NYSE: ASD), for sponsorship and naming rights for the Norway Speedway in Norway IL. The speedway will now be known as the "Trane Motor Speedway" after the heating and cooling giant. "I think that we are the first karting specific track to receive substantial sponsorship from an international company outside the sport of karting," said Intense co-owner Mike Combs. "We view this as a milestone for karting and certainly a great indicator that our sport is gaining recognition in the general population in the United States. Trane is a huge corporation that is willing to take a chance on karting with a significant commitment to our operation. That bodes well for all of karting. We will do everything in our power to deliver on our end of the deal so that this will become a model for other outside companies to follow." After several proposals to the heating and cooling giant, Intense was able to secure a three-year deal worth several thousands of dollars. "Even though I have inroads to the company, it's never easy to close a deal for that kind of money," said Dave Musial, Combs' partner at Intense Karting. "When you are dealing with a huge marketing department, you have to argue exposure and demographics. Karting has everything Trane was looking for. We are going in with every confidence that we will deliver on the exposure that we have promised." "We are looking at this just like the transition from Charlotte Motor Speedway to Lowes Motor Speedway. The sponsorship won't have any effect on the day-to-day operations at the track but it will allow us to expand our scope and improve what we have. We will expand the amenities at the facility and push to make Trane Motor Speedway the top track in American karting," said Combs. Trane is a leading global provider of indoor comfort systems and comprehensive facility solutions, with current annual sales approaching $5 billion. Trane is a business of American Standard Companies, a Fortune 500 company and a leader in the air conditioning, plumbing, and vehicle braking systems markets. Trane Motor Speedway is a dual-purpose karting facility with a 6/10-mile sprint track and an integrated 1/5-mile oval. The Combs family has operated the track since 1989 and the track houses Intense Karting, the importer for Tonykart Racing chassis and several other karting related products.
