Mid-State Kart Club Sets Class Structure and Schedule for 2003SPRINGFIELD, IL - Mid-State Kart Club will start its 43rd season of kart racing on April 6 and will hold 17 club point races with the final point race concluding on October 12. Special events this year will include the opening round of The Mid-West Sprint Series held on May 1 through May 4, the Track Challenge on October 5, the Enduro Pumpkin Fun Race on October 19, and a new four race mini-series to be held in conjunction with the St. Louis Karting Association called "The Gateway Sprint Series". Two of the four races will be held at the I-55 Raceway Park in Pevely, MO near St. Louis, and two races will be held at Mid-State, with the best 3 of 4 races counting toward the series points. The dates for The Gateway Sprint Series are as follows: April 13 - Mid-State Raceway, May 18 - I-55 Raceway Park, July 20 - I-55 Raceway Park, Sep. 6 - Mid-State Raceway (bonus points). Mid-State Raceway's races are held on Sundays in April and May. Starting in June, the racing will be held on Saturday nights under the lights until mid-September, when they will again be held on Sundays. Practice will start at 11:00 am on Sundays and 5:00pm on Saturdays. For those racing for points, the best 13 of 17 races will count toward season points. The two Gateway Sprint Series races held at Mid-State may be counted toward Mid-State season points. The club will require Bridgestone YHC tires for all sprint classes. Burris SS55 or SS44 tires will be required for the oval classes this year. The sprint track will run rain or shine in 2003 with any factory rain tire acceptable. The club will generally follow the WKA Manufacturer's Cup Series tech rules for the 2-Cycle sprint classes, except as noted. The WKA Gold Cup Series tech rules will be used for the 4-Cycle sprint classes, except as noted. The oval classes will generally utilize WKA Speedway Pavement Series tech rules, except as noted. Transponder scoring will be utilized starting in the 2003 season in all classes except Kadet. Transponders are available for purchase from the club for $175 or they can be rented on race day.
