Midwest Racing Expo packed them in on Super Bowl Sunday
WHEATON, IL - This year's Midwest Racing Expo & Swap Meet was a full house for the better part of the day this past January 26th at the DuPage County Fairgrounds in West Suburban Chicagoland. Booth spaces were packed full with exhibits, merchandise, information and more. The temperatures were in the single digits in Suburban Chicago at 7:00am when the tradesman and swap sellers began setting up their areas and it didn't go up by much throughout the rest of the day. As the first of over 2500 racing enthusiasts began filing through the building everyone was warmed-up and ready to go.
Some of the organizations, shops, companies and clubs in attendance answering questions, discussing new products and selling merchandise were the International Racing Association, The Inside Track, e-kmi.com, Adams Trailers, Fast Lane Kart Shop, Flatout Group Graphics, National Kart News, P&H Enterprises, Raceway Kart Association, Whitledge Racing Engines and Streeter Super Stands. Curt Paluzzi of NKN brought his well-known trailer inside and had plenty of copies of his popular karting magazine for everyone. Darrell Sitarz of e-kmi.com seemed surprisingly relaxed while answering questions and discussing plans for Kart Expo 2003 which is coming up soon on February 22nd & 23rd nearby in St. Charles, Illinois. All booths have been sold out for weeks now and this looks to be another banner year for the show.
Also on hand were Terry & Shirley Riggins from Great Lakes Region Superkarts!USA and Ginny Barnard of Mid-America Region Superkarts!USA with answers, information, schedules, membership forms and many more great items available to the walk-in crowd. The largest display present was definitely the G.E.M. Products, Inc. booth. Packed full of everything from chassis and bodywork to sprockets and motor mounts it was one of the busiest of the day.
A little over half of the 40,000 sq. ft. fairgrounds building was filled with swap booths mostly packed tight with karts, parts and other items and the first complete kart walked out the doors to its new owners home just ten minutes after the doors opened. Used karts continued to sell throughout the show and seemed to be the hottest thing going in the swap area this year! Plenty of engines, tires and other kart parts changed owners also with a lot of those buyers being newcomers to this great sport of karting.
Promoter and show organizer Dave Larson said, "The Midwest Racing Expo continues to outdo itself year after year! With karting growing at breakaway speed in the Midwest we may have to add a second building next year to accommodate everyone for our 16th anniversary show."
