Jamie Bach & B-K Motorsports sit on the pole and are runner-up in PRO tune-up at site of opening round

SEBRING, FLORIDA - In their first event since winning the SCCA NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP last September, Jamie Bach and his B-K Motorsports team got 2003 off to a flying start today at the famed Sebring International Raceway in Florida.

The weekend started to look like every one of the last five outings for Jamie Bach and B-K Motorsports. The team had the car dialed in and Jamie went out in qualifying and put it on the pole for the sixth event in a row (dating back to July 2002). Bach's pole time of 2:09.9 was a full second ahead of the second place car of Doug Peterson, a veteran of the STAR MAZDA SERIES and Sebring International Raceway. The other important part of his pole winning time was that it was only.8 of a second off of the track record...this after Bach saw the full course for the very first time on Thursday morning.

At the drop of the green in today's 13 lap feature event, Bach took off from the field and led the first lap. Coming onto the front straight to start lap two, Bach ran wide and Peterson got by to take the lead. A few laps later, coming into turn one, Bach slide across some bumps and spun sideways. After gathering it up, Bach was still in second...but 15 seconds behind the leader. Gaining at a rate of 5 seconds each lap, Bach closed within 3 seconds of Peterson at the flag to bring home a solid second.

Bach and B-K enter the 2003 campaign focusing their primary attention on the professional STAR MAZDA SERIES North American Championship. These events, run in the same Formula Mazda car which took Bach to the 2002 Sports Car Club of America NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP last September, are supporting races to the American LeMans Series for exotic sports cars and prototypes. The opening round of the 2003 STAR MAZDA SERIES will be right back at Sebring during the famed 12 Hours of Sebring race weekend.

The next event for Bach and B-K will likely be the opening round of the 2003 STAR MAZDA SERIES North American Championship at the 12 Hours of Sebring event March 12-15. As is the case with ALL STAR MAZDA SERIES events, the March event will be televised on SPEED CHANNEL. Broadcast dates and times are yet to be released. Stay tuned!!!!

"We had a really great run. Obviously, we always come to the track to win, but this weekend we came up just about one lap short. Doug (Peterson) got a great run on us and then I lost it a bit in turn one going across the bumps. We were down about 15 seconds after that and had to fight our way back. At the line we were about 3 seconds back and might have been able to catch him, but that was the checkered lap. We feel really good about what we accomplished and are really glad we grabbed the pole. This was the first time that I had the opportunity to be on the full course here and what a special place it is. We feel like we are pretty well set for the PRO race in March. And we cannot wait to come back. Thank you."
