Badger gets a few features in before rains
DOUSMAN, WI - The Badger Kart Club was able to get in only three feature races Aug 3rd before heavy storms moved in and washed out the rest of the program. Officials did what they could to keep the program moving, but computer-scoring problems early on didn't help. Officials resorted to manual scoring until the problem could be corrected.
The only three features that ran were Sr. Sportsman Heavy and the two HPV classes. In Sr. Sportsman Heavy, Bob Ropke and Steve Mente again had a terrific battle. Mente grabbed the lead on the start but the hard-charging Ropke managed to get by in the early laps. On the last lap, Mente was able to dive inside Ropke in the right-hand hairpin and hang on for another feature win.
The HPV Jr. feature was cut short as the rains came halfway through forcing officials to throw the red flag. And from that point forward, the rains just never stopped, forcing officials to cancel the rest of the races entirely. Points were awarded to the classes that didn't race the feature based on how the were lined up for the feature. This is calculated by how the drivers finish in heats one and two.
