Bach and B-K leave them racing for secondSAUKVILLE, WI (August 26, 2002) - Jamie Bach and his B-K Motorsports team did it again this weekend and this time it was at the site of the upcoming SCCA National Championship RUNOFFS...Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Bach started from the pole with a new track record, beat the field into turn one, and after some early race pressure from Jim Goughary...Pulled away to a 25-second victory. Under near perfect conditions Saturday afternoon, Bach went out and set a new qualifying track record at the scenic 2.8-mile circuit. The track record this weekend gives Bach the current Formula Mazda track record at four circuits in the Midwest: Blackhawk Farms, Mid-Ohio, Nelson Ledges, and Indianapolis Raceway Park. Since he started racing Formula Mazda's in the summer of 2000, Bach has now held the track record at least once at six of the eight circuits in the Midwest. And by sitting on the pole this weekend, Bach and his team have moved their pole positions count for 2002 to nine. This now betters the number of pole positions they set in 2001, which was eight. As was the case in June, first year Formula Mazda driver and SCCA sports car racing veteran Jim Goughary was second in the line-up to Bach in the thirty-five car field. Bach was focused on getting a great start and did exactly that, winning the race to turn one and ultimately leaving the rest of the field to race for second place. Bach did win the race to turn one, however, in the early laps his mirrors were full of Goughary, third place starter Fabio Castellani, and fourth place starter Bob Kaminsky. On the third lap, Goughary bumped the curbing in turn one and spun in the center of the track with the entire field on his heels. Fortunately there was no contact, but much of the pack had to get on the brakes and it allowed Bach to escape a bit. Then, just a few laps later, two slower cars also spun in turn one and Castellani spun when he saw the incident. This allowed Bach to extend his lead and lap after lap he simply pulled away and worked slower traffic...lapping all but nine cars in the field on his way to scoring his eleventh win of the season. Bach and his team now set their sites completely on the 2002 SCCA National Championship RUNOFFS. The RUNOFFS begin at Mid-Ohio on September 16, with the nationally televised (SPEED Channel) championship race being run on Sunday, September 22 at 11:50 a.m. Eastern Time. The television schedule for the SPEED Channel broadcast of the Formula Mazda Championship race has not yet been sent.
