Adam Carlson spins and wins Freiberg, Kenseth and Humphrey hold off last corner challenges at the 2002 Lake Geneva Raceway Fall ClassicLAKE GENEVA, IL - The kart racers of the Burris Circle Tour took the show to the big time to participate in the Lake Geneva Raceway Fall Classic. This annual event includes wheeled vehicles of all types from some of the youngest karters to Run What You Brungı stock cars. The Friday night show featured Small Cars with FIRA, Sport Trucks, Super Mini Cup Cars, and Mini Mods running along with 4 classes of karts and Champs Karts. Adam Carlson, of Lisle, IL, won it the hard way in the Jr. III class. Early in the race, Carlson got together with Billy Hulbert, bringing out the yellow flag and starting again at the rear of the pack. Carlson then started moving his way up through the crowded field. In just 7 laps, he had picked off 11 other drivers to take over the lead. It wasnıt easy. As Carlson got near the front, Jimmy Johnson was trying to hold onto his lead as Zach Axlen and Mason Hadley both had their sights on the top spot. Carlson took advantage of the turf wars finding a smooth inside line with just an inch to spare. At the checker it was Carlson, Hadley, Johnson, Axlen and Tommy Colson taking the top five spots. The Jr. 1 karts got the feature off to a quick start with 4 young drivers forming up in the lead pack. Ross Kenseth took the lead with Aaron Katzenberg, Tyler Peterson and Dylan Hobbs falling in nose to tail. Ross had the right set up on this cool autumn evening and started to assert his lead. Tyler knew the place to be was right behind the leader, using the draft to pull away from the rest of the field. The crowd knew the slingshot move was coming and were not disappointed as coming down the back stretch the final time, Tyler pulled to the inside to make the pass. Ross held the line, kept his foot in the gas and didnıt celebrate until after he passed the stripe just inches in front of Peterson. Less than a second later Katzenberg and Hobbs crossed for the third and fourth place finishes. The Sr. Mediumıs decided that drafting was for the youngsters and it was better to go four wide instead. The lead group included Jacob Humphrey, Joe Moser, Ryan Rockhold, Dave Budres Jr. and Steve Rex. Humphrey, this week sporting his bright pink arm cast, muscled his way to a marginal lead. Right behind him, Rockhold had his hands full with Moser and the duo of Budres and Rex thought sharing a single spot of the track was the way to go. Humphrey held on for the win. Rockhold narrowly beat Moser across the line and Budres finished a close fourth. Brian Frieberg took home his first feature win in the Jr. Champ Kart class. Frieberg had to hold off a hard charging Michael Bilderback for the victory. Frieberg joins the other top drivers in this class becoming the sixth feature winner on the Tour this year. Rounding out the top 5 were previous feature winners including Bilderback, Ryan Marshall, Matt Vice and Matt Scott. The drivers all had a great time under the lights and now turn their attention to the Burris Circle Tour Season Championships to be held at Lake Geneva Raceway on October 6th.
