The Kid Kart class put on show at 2nd Annual High Revs Race
By John Nuttall
LAKE GENEVA, WI (September 15, 2002) - The Jr. 2-cycle classes took to the 1/3-mile oval at Lake Geneva Raceway in the 2nd Annual High Revs Race, part of the Burris Circle Tour. Nineteen kids, ages 5-7 were entered in the Kid Kart class. Hometown favorite, Eric Sudcliff, narrowly beat Austin Hintt and Morgan Schissel. Cullen Breeden, a first time racer with the Burris Circle Tour came, from deep in the field to finish fourth. All of the participants were awarded trophies and special gifts courtesy of Fox Valley Packaging.
Carly Mandarino and Trevor Raisbeck continued to skirmish for the lead in the Jr. Yamaha class. These evenly matched races diced back and forth with Carly finally pulling out to the lead to take the checkered flag. Clay Kliem and Clint Kliem from Elgin, IL, were a few kart lengths. Rylee Bohlen fought engine trouble all day and had to drop out of the race early.
Dylan Barbosa took home his first feature win in the Jr. Sportsman Champs, bringing the total number of different feature winners this year to 46. Dylan had to edge in front of point leader, Mackenzie Piller and hold off a late challenge from George Clos. Colton Clevenger was at the front for most of the race, but faded near the end of the feature.
Matt Scott looked like he was going to repeat his win at Illiana Motor Speedway a few weeks ago. Michael Bilderback sped to an early lead, then at lap 5 Scott moved inside to take the lead and Matt Vice was threatening from the outside on every turn. Vice developed engine problems so Bilderback and Scott were left alone out front. Finally in the last lap, Bilderback was running out front, Scott moved inside, but Bilderback held on to the inside corner for the win. Mickey Kudlicki and Ryan Marshall rounded out the podium.
Jason Lingren ran a superb race to hold off Shane Morrissey for his first feature win of the year in Sr. Lite bringing the total number of different feature winners this year to 47. With two laps to go, it looked like Shane would be able to maintain a narrow lead. Jason look outside, then moved to the bottom to take the lead and the first place trophy. Morrissey was second and class points' leader Jacob Humphrey clung to third.
Joe Veyette, who has had a solid lock on second place this year finally decided that first was better and took home his first feature win of the year in Sr. Medium bringing the total number of different feature winners this year to 48. Ryan Rockhold rode his bumper for the entire race to finish second.
The Jr. 3 feature looked like two races in one. Out in front, Jeff Everts, Billy Hulber and Tanner Bohlen swapped positions with each holding the lead for a short time. Coming around the last corner Jeff made his move to win handily. A few kart lengths back, a hungry pack of five scrapped for the remaining trophy position. Jimmy Johnson outlasted Matt Atkinson, Adam Carlson, Mason Hadley and Tommy Colson.
Jay Gough dominated the large Sr. Yamaha class winning by almost a half a track in front of his competitors. Seth Lootans and Mike James made a valiant effort to catch Gough, but didn't have the steam to do it today. Other winners for the day were Ben Stumpf Jr. 1, Dean Daul 4-cycle Sportsman and Mike Slabenak Sr. Champs.
There are only two races left in the 2002 Burris Circle Tour season. The next stop features the Jr. 1 class in the 7th Annual Purple Shootout. Come out to the track at Lake Geneva, WI on September 22nd to join the fun.
