Megenbier and Team Terror head for Vegas
LAS VEGAS, NV - After an outstanding weekend in Batavia, NY, clenching the World Karting Association's National championship, Team Terror Inc and their young driver Tim Megenbier Jr. headed to Las Vegas, NV for the prestigious Superkarts! USA SuperNationals. Team Terror began practice on Thursday already playing catch-up as their fellow competitors attended the official practice day on Wednesday. The team worked feverishly to tune the kart for young Megenbier as the very technical Memo Gidley designed temporary sprint track offered very unique challenges. After qualifying 9th with a time of 51.234, behind the pole sitter Cole Witt's time of 50.322, Team Terror continued to struggle to find grip. On Saturday night team manager and owner Tim Megenbier Sr. called a meeting to review the past days setups and discuss setup for the Sunday finals. During the team meeting, which extended into the early AM hours on Sunday, an aggressive setup was theorized. During the 5-lap practice session the team was excited about the new setup and was anxious about the finals. In the final, younger Megenbier had a tremendous start passing 4 karts going into Turn 1. Unfortunately in Turn Two, two karts collided and impacted Megenbier's kart. This impact set Timmy spinning and stalling the kart in the exit of Turn 2. After a restart by the corner worker Timmy found himself in 15th place and the leaders more than a straightway ahead of him. On the hunt to track down the leaders Timmy turned consistent 51.000 laps and proceeded to pass seven karts. At the conclusion of the race Timmy was four kart lengths behind a pack that finishing in the sixth through fourth positions. After the post race Tech inspection the winner Cole Witt was disqualified on fuel. Therefore the final results show young Megenbier finishing in Seventh place.
During the post race Team debriefing Timmy expressed disappointment by the first lap incident, happy about the finish, and very grateful of the endless effort by his crew. "These guys worked their butts off on the setup on my kart. We struggled all weekend to find grip. Combined by our late arrival to the event and the fact that we have only run this 60cc shifter kart once this year, I am very happy with my finish. I have to thank my Dad, Tom Glad, and Patrick Burke for all their efforts this weekend. I also have to thank Donnie Stewart with Team Rahal for all his help in setup and Mr. Rahal for bringing the Blue Jean Energy Drink. We came to the SuperNationals to prove that I could run with the big boys and we did. Next year I will be running 80Jr and those guys better watch out for me."
