A KGB Agents First Year in S1 - "Vegas, Baby, Vegas"

    By: Jesse Lemel
LAS VEGAS, NV - The Superkarts USA, Las Vegas Supernationals put a cap on a trying rookie year of S1 competition. With all the practice and preparation put in I was ready to go out and win. Unfortunately, I did not have Lady Luck on my side. With motor troubles being the deciding factor in my race weekend, my practice was spent dealing with extreme motor problems and come qualifying we changed motors and finally had something that would run, but was still off pace, as I was only capable of qualifying in 32nd position. I ran my heat with the same motor and was getting eaten up by people while on the power. But the heat race went well from some aspects as I managed to move up into a high enough position to qualify for the main without having to run the Last Chance Qualifier. I went out for morning practice on race day and we decided to switch motors for the main event. So we put on a different motor, which we did not know exactly where to go for jetting, and ended up jetting it way off. Even with the motor running very poorly it was 6th's of a second faster a lap than the other motor I had been running, but it still wasn't nearly enough. I moved backwards from my 15th place starting position and ended the race around 24th. Even though things were not going well on the track I still had a great deal of fun. Also on a good note, I had another pain free race weekend in my Deep Seat and I would also like to thank Shift. I was having trouble with the pair of gloves I brought down as they did not fit right and were going to end up giving me blisters if I kept using them. So I went up to the Shift display booth and acquired a pair of gloves to use for the weekend, they are awesome gloves, very comfortable and tight fitting giving you a great feel while driving and never moving out of place. I had no further problems with my hands after switching to the Shift gloves.

Even when racing is not going good you're bound to have fun at an event like the Supernationals. The event is so cool, you look at the track and see the strip right behind it and wander around the pits where everyone seems to have gone all out to make sure they had the nicest set up there. Trailers were nice and clean, teams were all dressed in uniform, some even had new graphics kits made up especially for the race, for example Bobby Wilson's kart. Teams were showing off new sponsorship, and drivers were making their debut in new classes. The excitement and emotions at the Supernationals is something remarkable. Also the food was amazing, for at the track the Rio set up a booth for racers to buy some food, if you were to lazy or just did not have the time to go into the hotel and pick up some food from one of the restaurants. Then at night we would either go out to eat at the awesome Rio Buffet or try out some other restaurant in the hotel and then hang out and wander the hotel, and other such things. It is really a fun event to be a part of even if you can not go and race. I recommend going and finding some way to take part in this event, whether you come as a spectator, a wrench for someone or whatever you come up with. You need to witness this awesome event!
