Baltzer takes ICC win in Round 4 of the WKA/SCCA Constructors Cup Championship Series CONCORD, NC (November 3, 2002) - Craig Baltzer wrapped up the 2002 WKA/SCCA Constructor's Cup ICC National Championship today with his win in the final round at the North American Karting Championships at Lowes Motor Speedway. Also, by winning both of the internationally recognized events on the calendar (Road America was the first) the Skip Barber Karting Scholarship driver also earned the 2002 CIK North American ICC crown. Weekend conditions were clear and cool leaving competitors searching for grip on a green racing surface. By qualifying, Baltzer had found enough traction to secure his third pole of the series with a time of 42.661. Alan Adams led the field into the first corner of Saturday's pre-final with Jamie Sieracki rocketing in behind to demote Baltzer back to third. The MRP/Birel driver was not to be denied however, as he battled his way back to the front to secure the pole for Sunday's final. The start of the 20-lap feature race saw the Biesse of Alan Adams again grab the lead heading into the Turn One, but this time the #12 Bridgestone/Pavesi/Birel was hot on his trail. Adams made a slight bobble on lap 2 coming out of Turn Thirteen, which allowed Baltzer a window of opportunity heading into the tight Turn Fourteen hairpin. Baltzer made the move stick and was never challenged, pulling away to a 7.799 second lead and setting the weekend's fastest lap at 42.475. Throughout this season's four race Constructor's Cup Series, Baltzer managed three wins, three poles, three fastest laps, two track records and accrued ninety-five points out of a possible one-hundred. Baltzer also secured his spot along with five other drivers for a one-day Primus Racing test, where two drivers from the test will be awarded fully funded Formula Ford rides for 2003 in SCCA National competition. "Ending out the season with this win is exactly what I wanted to do" admitted Baltzer. "We were fastest all throughout the weekend and it went as smooth as possible for me. My plan now is to keep my head down and hopefully carry this momentum into the SCCA Primus Run-offs as well as the Barber Dodge Big Scholarship Run-offs.
