KLS Racing/MBA Signs Alex Speed For 2003

VACAVILLE, CA - KLS Racing and MBA officially announced today the signing of Alex Speed to drive for the Vacaville, CA based shifterkart-racing team. Speed will join rookie Gary Carlton, SKUSA Western Zone S1 Champion, in the SuperPro class for the 2003 on board an MBA chassis.

Alex Speed is no stranger to KLS Racing or MBA, beginning his shifterkart racing career with the team back in 1999, the year the team won the ShifterKart Illustrated Magazine "Team of the Year" award.

"We have been talking to the Speed's (Alex and older brother Scott) ever since they switched teams a few years ago, but the timing was never right," said KLS Racing President, Scott Jeffery. "We are very excited about Alex coming back and joining Gary. These guys are both dedicated drivers and we are putting every effort in regaining the synergy we had from a few seasons ago."

The KLS Racing team will continue to utilize the successful MBA chassis line that KLS has been importing into North America. Alex Speed won the SKUSA 80cc Jr. championship in 1999 on an MBA and is looking forward to begin testing in preparation for next season.

"I am really looking forward to racing again for KLS," said Speed. "We have always had a good relationship and worked very well together. I think the MBA meshes well with my driving style so we are hoping this change will help this make it "our" year."

Speed will have good company in the KLS Racing team with SuperPro rookie, Gary Carlton, who will be gunning for the "rookie of the year" title. The SKUSA Western Zone S1 champion was putting in a strong effort for this year's overall title when a broken hand sidelined him late in the season. Carlton is looking forward to having Speed as a teammate as well.

"Alex and I are on the same wavelength," said Carlton. "We have raced together, tested together and are good friends, so I think the team chemistry should be very good. I think his experience should help me have a better shot at rookie of the year. We will be working hard at top tens and see if we can continue to improve."
