Bridgestone Tire Badger Kart Club Championship races at the new Briggs Motorplex at Road America By Mike Weaver DOUSMAN, WI (May 20, 2002) - This past Sunday, due to a gracious offer by Briggs & Stratton, the Badger Kart Club raced at the Briggs Motorplex at Road America. This was the first time since 1963 that the Badger Kart Club held a championship points race at a track other than Badger Raceway in Dousman, Wisconsin. So everyone packed up their trailers and headed to one of America's finest racing facilities to try out the different track. Officially opened in 2001, the Briggs Motorplex is a go-kart specific track built into the hills inside turn 8 at Road America. With plenty of twisting turns, cork-screws, elevation changes and blind corners, it quickly became the favorite track of many of the racers. And with the vintage car races running on the big track, everyone had a good time! The Briggs Animal Sr. class produced quite a spectacular feature race. Pole-sitter Regan Vehring was sent to the rear of the field for bringing them down too fast a couple of times. When the green fell, Vehring worked his way into 3rd by the top of the hill, but it took him two more laps to run down Steve Federwisch. After getting by Federwisch, Vehring had to run down past BKC champion "Bad" Brad Richards. In the last corner, Vehring slipped inside Richards and took the win at the line by 2 inches!!! Erin Cechal continued to have a great 2002 season by dominating in Yamaha Lite and taking 2nd in Sr. Sportsman Lite. The win in Yamaha Lite was Cechal's first feature win at Badger and should move her in the points standings from 6th place to 2nd or 3rd. Ronny Graham ran a good race in Jr. Can to capture the feature win there and Eric Schumacher won for the 2nd week in a row in Jr. Briggs. Last year's Jr. Briggs champion Kasi Graff moved to Briggs Animal Jr. for 2002 and is on her way to another championship. Graff has won all the feature races run in that class so far in 2002. Cody Weber also continued his winning streak in Briggs Jr. Sportsman with another solid performance taking the feature win.
