CART 'Stars of Tomorrow' Series announces Spec Tires and FuelLAS VEGAS, NV - Mr. Hollis Brown, National Race Director for the CART Stars of Tomorrow karting series, announced today the definition of specified fuel and tires for all classes in the series. "After a great deal of effort and negotiations, we are pleased to announce that we have chosen two venerable karting suppliers for our spec program," Brown announced. "Bridgestone will supply all of the tires for each class and VP will be our fuel and oil supplier." Brown and Bryan Herta, founder of the Stars series and professional race driver, are to be credited with securing of the agreements with each supplier. Brown states, "It has been a tough job, and we sincerely appreciate everyone's patience and support." With the opening of a number of the Stars of Tomorrow regional series just around the corner, it is expected that this announcement will allow final testing to begin in earnest. The announcement of the fuel and tire specifications will allow the final touches to be added to the NAKA Technical Regulations. Scott G Evans, National Technical Director for the 'Stars of Tomorrow', expressed his gratitude to Brown and Herta. "I know how hard Hollis and Bryan have been working on finalizing these specifications," said Evans. "The rulebook was structured to accept these definitions and now we have them. My compliments go out to all involved. A rules supplement will be forthcoming to formalize these specifications." The tire compound for all classes except the premier Intercontinental C and ROTAX Max classes will be Bridgestone's tried and true YHC/USA. The ICC class will utilize the new YHB compound. The ROTAX class will utilize the international standard YGK compound. "All compounds are readily available," stated Brown, "and trackside sales at Stars events across the nation will be there." Regional series do not require purchase of tires from the event promoter and entrants are welcome to make their own purchases. VP Fuels will supply both the gasoline and two-cycle oil for the Stars of Tomorrow events. The specified fuel is "Motorsports 98", a leaded racing fuel with an octane rating of 98. The castor-based VP RC-3 two-cycle oil will be used in all applicable classes. Specified mixture ratios will be 20:1 for the Kid, Cadet and Yamaha Junior Superbox classes; 32:1 for the 80cc Junior Shifter and ICC classes and 50:1 for the spec ROTAX International class. Fuel and oil must be purchased at the track and meet the defined requirements established in the NAKA Technical Regulations. Prices will be $4.00 per gallon of gasoline and $6.00 per pint of oil.
