FLAG-to-FLAG, TWELVE SECOND WIN FOR BACH SETS THE STAGE FOR POTENTIAL JUNE SPRINTSŪ CHAMPIONSHIP CLINCHER "Jamie Bach and B-K score seventh road race win in a row and are one win away from CENDIV title" GRATTAN, MICHIGAN (June 9, 2002) - In just two weeks, Jamie Bach could be celebrating one of the biggest wins of his racing career at the June Sprints at Road America in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin... his home track. In addition, with a win that day, Bach and B-K Motorsports could be celebrating their second SCCA Central Division National Championship in two years. This Championship clinching stage is set because Bach and his B-K team did what they needed to do today at Grattan Raceway near Grand Rapids, Michigan. Under beautiful weather conditions, Bach started from the pole, won the race to the first turn over STAR MAZDA PRO SERIES regular Tim Jennings, and never looked back. He was able to pull away at about .5 second per lap despite the fact that the track conditions became increasingly slick in the middle stages of the race. Today's win marks Bach's seventh road race win in a row and his sixth win towards points in the Central Division standings for 2002. This was his third pole position start of the year and his second win in a row at Grattan (after winning the August 2001 National event). Bach and B-K will take one weekend off from the Formula Mazda to prepare for the June Sprints scheduled for June 20-23. The Formula Mazda feature event will take place on Sunday, June 23 in a late afternoon time slot. As was the case in 2001 with a 46-car field, the Formula Mazda feature is likely to be quite competitive. Mazda North American Operations in cooperation with STAR RACE CARS has established a $15,000 prize package and Goodyear Racing Tires will provide the top three June Sprints finishers with all their tires for the National Championship RUNOFFS in September. An additional factor in the size of the entry list for the Sprints is that the STAR MAZDA "PRO" SERIES will appear at Road America during the American LeMans SeriesŠRoad America 500 weekend and many of the PRO teams will be there testing. Bach and B-K will also participate in the PRO Formula Mazda race at that event...set for July 5-7 and televised on the SPEED Channel August 3 at 9:30 p.m. CST. On his weekend off, Bach is likely to appear at Road America with his kart as he traditionally has on Father's Day weekend. In any case, he is in the right position headed into the Sprints. We learned a ton during Friday's test and were able to turn some high "sixteens" (three tenths of a second under the 1:17.172 track record), while scrubbing in some tires. Qualifying went pretty well, but the track was pretty hot and unfortunately it was not a track record day (Bach's qualifying time was 1:17.256). We won the race into turn one and were able to pull away after that. The track got really slick about ten laps into the race, but we were able to hold on for the win. We have been able to put together a complete package and have success due to many people.
