Adam Carlson wins at Illiana SpededwaySCHERERVILLE, IN (June 15, 2002) - The Burris Circle Tour made its first stop at Illiana Speedway for the 2002 season Sunday, and Adam Carlson continued his winning ways at the track. Adam is currently undefeated in feature wins at Illiana in the classes he has run here. He won both feature races on last year's tour in the Briggs Junior 1 class and has won his first feature race in the Briggs Junior III class. He is currently leading in points in his class. The 12 year-old driver from Lisle, IL has spent a lot of time at the track in the past two years watching and helping out three of his favorite stock car drivers, Steve Campbell, Josh Nelms, and Eddie Wolf. Steve and Josh both race in the Mid-America stock car class that runs on the half mile and Eddie races in the Turbo Stox class that uses the same quarter mile Adam races his kart on. "Being at Illiana and watching these guys run has helped me learn the track when it comes time for me to race my kart" Adam says. Being involved with Steve Campbell's "Turtle Soup Racing" team has also given Adam an opportunity to see what goes on in the preparation of a stock car, both at the shop and at the track. Steve and Adam are not only friends but nearby neighbors. " A lot of the same things that are done to stock cars to make them fast are done to the karts, being prepared and attention to details are also important". Details must have paid off, because besides winning the feature race Adam also won the first heat race and came in a close second in heat two. Steve told Adam "Can't wait to race against you in stock cars!" |
