The Month of May
INDIANAPOLIS, IN - As they teach school children in Indianapolis, "January, February, March, April, The Month of May..." Sammi spent a lot of time in Gasoline Alley at the Indianapolis 500 getting better acquainted with team owners and sponsors. Her mentor, Lyn St James, has been a big help. Congradulations to Lyn on her new book "The Ride of Your Life." It's a great book. Racing Midgets in Indy on Asphalt. Under the tutelage of 7 time USAC Midget Champion, Mel Kenyon, the race season is in full swing! With four midget races under her belt last season, Sammi is now racing midgets weekly. This is her NAMARS rookie year driving for racing legends Don & Mel Kenyon. On May 9th Sammi stayed out of trouble and finished the feature in 9th place. May 16th saw Sammi with improved lap times and set a personal best record of 12.8 sec. She finished 8th on the night. Sammi also was a featured driver of the evening for the SeraPhim Cancer Foundation. She raised money to help fight cancer with sponsors donating a $1/lap.
The Week of the Indy 500! On May 25th, back in St Louis at Gateway International, Sammi finished 2nd in her Margay Enduro Kart. A fuel pickup problem and soft brakes held Sammi back for the day. Come May 30th,Sammi was back in action at the Speedrome testing a new communication device but a push developed during the 50-lap feature. Sammi still had a top-ten feature finish.
