ELKHART LAKE, WI - The third round of the 2002 Russell Karting / Dunlop Tire Mid States Super Series stopped at the 4-miles of rolling Wisconsin hills of Road America. The Dunlop Tire Road America Super Nationals is a unique event that gets more and more unique each year. This year, with Mid States classes being the core classes, the Mid America Road Racing Series (M.A.R.R.S), Badger Kart Club, and the Championship Enduro Series all attended the event to include in their points championships.

Weather was an issue on Friday as it cut practice short around 3pm local time. It also affected some of the racing on Saturday as thunderstorms passed by the track during the later races. With the track being so large, half the track was wet while the rest was sunshine. With some luck, we were able to get every race in and enjoy the brat party after the races were done.

Regan Vehring was the big winner of the weekend by taking 4 wins, two in the Sprint F200-OHV and two in the Sprint Briggs Animal classes. Jason King pulled in 3 wins in both the Presnell Racing Sprint Briggs Stock classes and in the local option Sprint Briggs Stock Lite class. Saturday's Sprint Briggs Stock class was the closest finish as King beat Brad Richards by 0.029 seconds. Staying with Briggs classes, Megan Miller took both Sprint Jr. Briggs Heavy and the FHS Supply Inc. Sprint Jr. Briggs Lite classes. Thomas S. Telitz took both the Sprint Team Briggs class and the Sprint Briggs Stock Heavy class. Also in the team races, Gerald Revely teamed up with his son Jerry to take the Redeye Electronics Sprint Team Yamaha SSX Can class and then took the Sprint Yamaha over 35 SSX Can class on Sunday.

Both Sprint 125 Gearbox classes were double winners as CKT's Corey Clayton took both the WNNCO Properties WKA 125cc Gearbox classes and from the west coast, David Clift took the Greenflag Motorsports CIK 125cc Gearbox classes. Tim Barnard had 3 wins also in both CES Sprint 80cc Jr. classes while taking the Sprint Yamaha SSX Can Jr. Heavy class.

Dan Dean took two wins in his first weekend of 2002 in both the German Motors Controlled Limited Saturday and the Fischer's Auto Repair Controlled Limited Sunday. Mark Horne came up from St. Louis to take two wins, one in Yamaha Heavy and one in the Martin Custom Products Enduro Yamaha over 35 Pipe class. Fifteen of the many classes were decided by less then a second, which shows there was great racing in every class.
