"Kart Racing Motorsports, Inc. purchases South Bend Raceway Park"

SOUTH BEND, IN - It was announced this past Sunday that Kart Racing Motorsports, Inc. recently completed the purchase of South Bend Raceway Park from SBRP founder Mel McCallum. Effective immediately, Kart Racing Motorsports, Inc. (KRM) will assume operation of the facility that has hosted numerous WKA and SKUSA National and Regional events and various regional and local programs since its opening in 1995.

KRM owner Craig Ferrara stated, "It is with great enthusiasm that we make this statement. South Bend Raceway Park has built a solid reputation in a relatively short time, and we are looking forward to the challenge and rewards of keeping SBRP as one of the premiere facilities, not only in the Midwest, but the United States. We are looking forward to building the relationships that have been established with the local, regional, and national series that have made SBRP one of their annual visits. We value the competition that these series bring to our facility, and look forward to assisting them in any way possible."

Former owner Mel McCallum added, "When my family built this track, our main purpose was to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for families, racers, and spectators. I believe that we have exceeded our expectations. I am excited to see this place grow under the direction of Craig and his management team. Išll still be around, through. Finally, I can just sit back and enjoy my grand-kids and their own racing."

Ferrara also wanted to make one assuring statement to everyone, "Marshall Martin will remain as Operations Director for SBRP. He has done a tremendous job in developing relationships will all of the sanctioning bodies and will remain a valuable asset into the future."

South Bend Raceway Park offers a 6/10th-mile road course with three different configurations and elevation changes in a wooded setting in Northern Indiana. The facility offers both paved and grass-area pit spots, including shaded areas. Construction on the facility began in 1994 and the first race was held in Spring of 1995. Since its opening, SBRP has hosted the WKA Manufactureršs Cup, WKA Gold Cup, WKA Constructoršs Cup, Great Lakes Sprint Series, Midwest Sprint Series, Ohio Sprint Series, Southern Indiana Racing Association, SKUSA ProMoto Series, and SKUSA Great Lakes Region. SBRP is also the home track of the Michiana Kart Klub, which annually offers a 12 race series.

Immediate plans for the facility include the construction of a full service kart shop, a fleet of 20 rental karts, and additional property improvements- all to be completed prior to the track opening in mid-April for racers.

"I am grateful for Mel giving KRM this opportunity. Many people have played a key role in getting to this point and I would like to thank them also. Wešve got a lot of work to do. The biggest reward will come in April when the season starts and one by one the families will enter the gates for one of their many visits," Ferrara said.
