"Center Raceway becomes Sweet Onion Karting Komplex under new owners" VIDALIA, GA - The former Center Raceway in Vidalia, Georgia has a new owner and a new name for the new year, the new SWEET ONION KARTING KOMPLEX. New owner, kart racer and brother of Tammie Gibbs, editor/publisher of the Regional Karting Connection magazine, Andy Clarke, has big plans for what he and others already consider one of the best clay ovals in South Georgia. "People are going to know what we're doing," says Clarke. "We intend to put the fun back in kart racing in South Georgia by having an ear for what racers want and making sure that the lines of communication are being used to relay messages to our racers. We think it's important to have a consistent marketing plan and hope to gradually turn the Sweet Onion Karting Komplex into the sort of place that has events people actually WANT to come and see. A track tends to suffer when the spectator crowd disappears. It hurts in two ways, revenue and the supply of new racers coming into the sport. We can't have new racers without them knowing about kart racing." The SWEET ONION KARTING KOMPLEX will kick off the 2002 season with a SEASON OPENER MONEY RACE on Feb. 2, 2002. Racers have questioned whether or not the annual "DASH FOR CASH" will be run this year. The race will be held this year March 1-3, 2002 and plans are currently underway and if the response is any indication- it's gonna be one of the biggest yet.
