Milwaukee area's Jamie Bach to be honored at 2003 Wisconsin Motorsports Charities BanquetSAUKVILLE, WISCONSIN - The SCCA National Championship in September was great for Jamie Bach and B-K Motorsports, but October and November have looked pretty good as well. It was confirmed today that Saukville, Wisconsin's Jamie Bach will be honored on Friday, January 10, 2003 at the Wisconsin Motorsports Charities Banquet in Waukesha. Bach will be awarded the 2003 Clif Tufte Award for accomplishments in ROAD RACING. The Clif Tufte Award, recognizing accomplishments in road racing, is named after the Elkhart Lake engineer Clif Tufte whose vision and land development abilities led to the creation of Road America. The late Tufte created the famed four-mile racing circuit in 1953 and opened for its first race in September 1955. The track has been host to famous drivers, races, and cars from around the globe in its 47-year history. Jamie Bach has driven into victory lane more times at age nineteen than most drivers have in their entire career. And it appears that the 2002 Sports Car Club of America (SCCA) Formula Mazda National Champion is just getting started. This Saukville, Wisconsin native, the son of Robert (Bob) and Colleen Bach, started his driving career like many successful racing championsŠin kartingŠat age 7. From the time he first turned a wheel until his seventeenth birthday, Bach won six WKA National Championships (three during the 1999 season alone), eleven Championship Enduro Series titles, and two WKA National Enduro Kart Championships. Following experiences at Skip Barber Racing School and the Bridgestone/Firestone Racing Academy in 2000, Bach got his first opportunity to race cars in the STAR Formula MAZDA category late that season. With two full seasons of Formula Mazda racing under his belt, Bach has amassed quite a record. Bach has won 21 of 34 races and scored 19 pole positions. He is the current track record holder at five of the eight circuits in the SCCAąs Central Division (CENDIV) and has scored two consecutive SCCA CENDIV National Points Championships. Bach also dominated and won the 2002 Central Division STAR MAZDA SERIES crown. By winning the 2002 SCCA National Championship race, Bach etched his name in National Championship record books alongside former WMC Honorees Jeff Miller, Elliott Forbes-Robinson, Boris Said. And he joined the company of Roger Penske, Bobby Rahal, Scott Sharp, and Jimmy VasserŠalso all former SCCA National Champions. In 2003, Bach plans to concentrate on the STAR MAZDA SERIES North American Championship. This series competes alongside the American LeMans Series (ALMS), and if all goes well - on the track and in the sponsorship hunt - Bach and his family based team plan to move to the ALMS 675 class for 2004. Ultimately, Bach concedes that a trip to the Indianapolis 500 and the highest levels of open wheel racing would be on the top of his list. From the beginning, Jamie has had the support of his family, as his father turned the driving duties over to him and his younger sister Becky. Becky and Jamie are teammates with Sean Gladden and his father Pat Kestner. In 2001, the senior Bach and Kestner formed B-K Motorsports, Inc. Bach joins some terrific company by being named a 2003 WMC Honoree. David Hobbs will serve as Master of Ceremonies to the event which has, in the past, honored motorsports names like Arie Luyendyk, Eddie Cheever, Jr., IMS Preisdent Tony George, Derek Bell, Brian Redman, Derek Daly, and Rusty Wallace...to name a few. The 2002 ROAD RACER AWARDS went to Peter Cunningham and Boris Said. It has been announced that other 2003 WMC Honorees who will tentatively attend the January banquet are: retired stock car racer Dave Watson, Indy Racing League Vice-President Brian Barnhart, and American Speed Association Rookie of the Year Dave Stremme. A tentative commitment has also been made - pending testing or sponsor scheduling conflicts - by NASCAR driver Scott Wimmer. 2002 CHAMPIONSHIPS: |
