Hauser wins in Jr. I, Hanson wins in Stock Medium at THS MENOMONIE, WI (Aug. 10, 2002) - A nice crowd of fans and drivers assembled Saturday night at Thunder Hill Speedway for the second annual Menomonie Farmers Union Coop & Crossroads Ag kart races. Great weather and smooth track conditions made for an exciting night of kart racing action under the lights of the dirt oval. Second generation racers Grant and Blake Hauser make the trip from Winona, Minnesota, with their dad every week to compete in the Junior I Division at Thunder Hill Speedway. On Saturday night the trip paid off for Grant when he won his first feature event of the year for the 7-11 year olds. Hauser started the race in third place and by lap seven he had taken over second spot. Hauser made his move after a restart on lap eight, and he went to the front. Defending points champion, Matt McCauley, came from mid-pack to challenge Hauser but had to settle for the runner-up position. Sixteen competitors took Shawn Clemmens's green flag at the start of the Junior II Feature Event and by the second lap, A.J. Roschen was in front. Roschen held the point ahead of Ryan Olson the rest of the way to grab the victory. In other action, Gene Supri won his fifth Senior Sportsman Feature and his second in a row over Jennifer Eslinger. John Cartmill was flawless as he held off a hard charging Todd Sinz for the win in the Winged Outlaws and Mike Keller won for the second time this season in the Blue Wazoom Division. Ryan Hanson was a first time victor in the Stock Medium Main, Blake Anderson nipped Abbey Roschen for his third win in the Junior Sportsman and Justin Supri beat Evan Quilling to the checkers in the Stock Light event. Reggie Moe was victorious in Novice action and Casey Stanton scored in the Stock Heavies. A mechanic's race was held after the regular program concluded, and Ben Johnson drove Ryan Olson's #18 kart to victory over 12 of his fellow "wrenchers". Next week's trophies will be presented by the Menomonie Chapter of D. A. R. E.
