    2002 Rock Island Grand Prix - Schedule of Events

    THURSDAY, AUGUST 29
    7 p.m.: Finals of F-1 Indoor Karting Center Charity Race at F-1 Indoor Karting Center, Riverdale, Iowa.

    FRIDAY, AUGUST 30
    4-10 p.m.: Registration open at Four Points by Sheraton.
    5 p.m.: Streets close.
    5-7 p.m.: Meet The Drivers Party. Free and open to public at Zimmerman Pontiac, Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Honda on 5th Avenue across from Pit Entrance.
    5-8 p.m.: DeMolay Spaghetti Dinner at Masonic Temple. All you can eat. $5 at 5th Avenue pit entrance.
    6-11 p.m.: Pits open.
    7-10 p.m.: Pre-race Tech open.
    9 p.m.: Outdoor music on East Plaza Stage sponsored by the Rock Island Brewing Co. featuring The Travoltas, a fantastic Canadian 1970s disco act that has become a favorite of Grand Prix racers. With opening act She-lo-joe, playing soul and R&B. $7 admission. All ages show.

    SATURDAY, AUGUST 31
    7 a.m.: Pits open.
    7 a.m.-noon: Registration open at Four Points by Sheraton.
    7 a.m.: Pre-Race Tech Opens.
    7:15-8:15 a.m.: Driver's meeting at pre-grid area.
    6 a.m.-Noon: DeMolay Pancake Breafast at the Masonic Temple. All you can eat $5.
    8 a.m.-6 p.m.: Vendors Open.
    8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.: Quad Cities Vintage Rod Club exhibition in infield vendor area.
    8:30-11:45 a.m.: Practice rounds. Five minute sessions. Groupings will be explained at drivers' meeting. Crossing breaks every 3 rounds.
    11:45a.m.-12:15 p.m.: Driver's meeting at pre-grid and lunch for track crew.
    12:30-5:30 p.m.: Timed qualifying (7 laps, 5 on the clock followed by cool-down lap) .
    6-9 p.m.: Karter hospitality reception at Four Points Hotel by Sheraton. Second Floor.
    5:30 p.m.: Track Closes at conclusion of qualifying.
    9 p.m.: Outdoor music on the East Plaza Stage sponsored by the Rock Island Brewing Co. featuring The Travoltas from Canada with opening act Cruisin' with Max A. Collins, playing '60s rock. $7 admission. All ages show.

    SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 1
    7 a.m.: Pre-Race Tech Opens.
    7:30-8:15 a.m.: Driver's Meeting at pre-grid area.
    7 a.m.-Noon: DeMolay Pancake Breakfast at The Masonic Temple. All you can eat $5.
    8 a.m.-6 p.m.: Vendors Open.
    8:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m.: Quad Cities Vintage Rod & Car Club exhibition in infield vendor area.
    8:30-10:30 a.m.: Practice. Sunday practice time may be limited and vary depending on number of class entries and Consolation races required. Sunday practice rounds will be run in race order.
    10:30-noon: Consolation Races (10 laps).
    Noon: Opening Ceremonies (lunch break for race staff).
    12:30 p.m.: Racing begins.
    6 p.m.: Racing Ends.
    9 p.m.: Outdoor music on the East Plaza Stage sponsored by the Rock Island Brewing Co. featuring Hair Bangers Ball playing '80s classic rock. $5 admission for over 21, $7 for under 21. All ages show.

    MONDAY SEPTEMBER 2
    9:30 a.m.: Annual Rock Island Labor Day Parade. 18th Ave. and 24th Street.
