Holland takes two at Path ValleyBy Walt Cox Weyandt won in the heavy class ahead of Kevin Sheaffer in second and Chris Orris third, and Ebersole won in Jr. Sportsman II just ahead of Matt Burger and then points leader Alex Benda and Frankie Peters who holds second in those points with Lance Newlin completing the top five. In the four-wheeler quads class the statistical favorites dominated over unusually large fields on hand for that evening's AMA District 6 race. Craig Robinson on Port Royal won in 2-stroke and Cory Burhman of Chambersburg took the 4-stroke win. Delancey and Burhman both have commanding leads in those divisions. Only DJ Holland of Claysburg had multiple wins with victories in both Jr. Stock and Jr. Restricted karts. Riders can enter as many classes as they have legal karts for. The teen to adult boxstock classes were swelled with riders in practice for next Saturday's Karts Summer National at Path Valley that will pay $500 to the winner of the Grand National feature for 340 pound karts. All of the lite, medium, heavy and extra-heavy karts that can make the minimum weight are eligible. With Burris Racing as the general season sponsor, Path Valley is a Burris 'SpecTrak' sanctioned by the BNSS. Karts and four-wheelers race every Saturday on the steep Path Valley quarter-mile banks with gates open at 10 a.m. and practice at noon. August highlights for the karters and four-wheel riders include a canned food drive to benefit local food banks August 10, a motor race for a new Briggs engine August 17, and the return of the PDKA August 18. The Pennsylvania Dirt Karters Association race five of six for the PA State Championship is set for a 7 a.m. gate opening. The quads get to race twice on August 31 as the AMA returns that evening in a flattrack series race for both motorcycles and four-wheelers sponsored by B&B Sales and Service and KTM Yamaha. The Path Valley Speedway Park is located in Spring Run PA a mile north on PA Route 641 from the intersection with PA Route 75, halfway between Port Royal and Hagerstown. It is five miles east from the Willow Hill Exit 14 of the PA Turnpike. The new phone number at the track for promoter Ken Geesey is 717-349-7111. For information on the 2002 schedule and track, race teams and fans can call the owners at 717-426-4756 or 717-426-2910, consult the website at www.pathvalley.com, or they can email them at twp@pathvalley.com.
