MSSS runs a tough Grattan RacewayBy David Cole Saturday Night featured a pig roast provided by the raceway and the Kid's Games sponsored by Michigan Kart Club. All kids under 12 were able to go home with plenty of prizes and fun memories. Simon Says highlighted the event, both for the kids and the adults, and water dunk tank that had ice bags thrown in it. MKC President Chris Williamson, Vice President David Cole, and the great Johnny West were victims of the cold water by kids and racers. There were three big winners of the weekend, Lamont Critchett took three wins, Saturday and Sunday Sprint Yamaha Can and Sunday's G-Man Kart Works Sprint Yamaha. Critchett leads the point standings in all three classes. Gerald Revely took Saturday's O&H Products, Inc. Sprint Yamaha over 35 Can and Sunday's class along with Redeye Electronics Sprint Team Yamaha Can. Revely has a demanding lead in the points for all three classes. Larry Scheeder took both Enduro 100cc Piston Port classes and O&H Products, Inc. Yamaha Medium. The weekend saw plenty of double winners. Josh Lane took the Sprint Yamaha Can Jr. Lite and Heavy classes. Derek Trimble won the Presnell Racing Sprint Briggs Stock both days. Bryan Blair took both WNNCO Properties Sprint WKA 125cc Gearbox while shifter veteran Ted Steffke to Saturday's Greenflag Motorsports Sprint CIK 125cc Gearbox over WKA racer Lance Lane by 0.013 seconds in the closets finish of the weekend. Blair leads the points in both while Steffke leads Saturday's and trails Troy Brown on Sunday. Rich Voss was able to take both Sprint Open / 80cc Gearbox classes. Sticking with the gearbox classes, Johnny West won the West Racing Unlimited Twin Saturday and the GP Star Engines Unlimited Twin Sunday. West trails Neville Algie in Saturday's class while he leads Sunday's class. Tom Disch took the German Motors Controlled Limited Saturday and Fischer's Auto Repair Controlled Limited Sunday. Disch leads both classes in the point standings. Scott Grenier took the Yamaha Heavy and Enduro Yamaha SBX Sportsman Sunday. Grenier leads both classes in the point standings. William Howerth took both Sprint F200-OHV classes while Matt Hursey won both Enduro Yamaha SSX Can classes. Hursey leads the point standings on Sunday. The sixth round of seven will be at Blackhawk Farms Raceway in Rockton, IL, hosted by River Valley Kart Club, August 16-18.
