Bach & B-K nab tenth win of the season and clinch the Central Division Star Mazda Series

GRATTAN, MI (August 11, 2002) - The road to the SCCA National Championship RUNOFFS continued today at Grattan Raceway near Grand Rapids, Michigan. And Jamie Bach and B-K Motorsports continued their plans for a "championship" season with a runaway victory, their tenth of the season, a result of their eighth pole position of the year.

For the third weekend in a row, warm weather blanketed the Midwest and track conditions were not quite ideal for a track record. Bach and the B-K team had the car dialed in, however, and took the top qualifying spot with a dominating lap early in Saturday's qualifying session. After turning the quick lap early in the session, the team came in and sat in the pit lane in order to save their tires. And it turned out to be the right move, as nobody else got close to Bach's pole time and B-K secured their eighth pole position of the season.

Today's race was nearly as perfect as qualifying. Bach took the lead at the drop of the green flag and never looked back. He was able to put nearly every car in the field one lap down before the checkered fell and he came home 59 seconds ahead of the second place Formula Mazda. The win marks his third in as many weekends and his third win in as many events held at Grattan Raceway.

In addition to clinching the SCCA Central Division National Championship two weeks ago, Bach and B-K can now add the CENTRAL DIVISION STAR MAZDA SERIES crown to their trophy case. They have amassed points for pole positions, fastest race laps, victories, and entering every race on the schedule. The Central Division STAR MAZDA SERIES is one of a number of divisional series hosted across North America for STAR FORMULA MAZDA racecars. The series prize package includes a cash purse thanks to Mazda North American Operations, STAR RACE CARS, and Goodyear Racing Tires. Additional prizes include BOSCH Spark Plugs, Goodyear Tires for use in upcoming events, and BBS Wheels.

"We are really excited to get another win. We feel like we are learning more each time out and I am glad to keep putting in laps and getting as much seat time as possible before the RUNOFFS. Grattan has been a good place for us and another weekend of good luck gave us the chance to run out front. We have a ton of work to get ready for Mid-Ohio in a couple weeks. We truly want to go there and get things dialed in one last time before the RUNOFFS. Once again my Goodyear Tires stayed with me the entire race and Ron Roland of R Sport helped us with the set-up. Thanks also to Craig Taylor...his gearbox has been flawless all year and Joe at MOTEC has really helped me dial the car in with the data system we use. It is really a team effort and we are just taking it one race at a time."

The next big event for the B-K Motorsports team will be at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on August 24-25. This will be the final SCCA National at Mid-Ohio, (the site of the SCCA National Championship RUNOFFS), prior to the September 16-22 championships.
