"Final points race for 2001 Season held at Mid-State Raceway's sprint track"
SPRINGFIELD, IL - Mid-State Raceway's final sprint point race of the 2001 season was held October 14, 2001 as club members battled for one last chance to improve their position in the final point standings. Qualifying was held for the first on the expanded 1/2-mile sprint track configuration to establish track records. A good turn-out of 41 entries participated in the final points race of the season. Next year, the Mid-State Kart Club plans to add weekly point races for the oval classes as well. Oval kart racers who are interested in racing at Mid-State next year are encouraged to contact a club officer or attend the November 11 rules meeting to help establish the oval class structure and race format for next year. In addition to the weekly oval racing, several special event oval races are planned for next year.
The final race of the season will be held October 21, 2001. A surprise format will be used for this non-points event. Following the races, a brief track work session will be held to close the track for the season, followed by a potluck and cookout to help clean out the concession stand. Although no more races will be held after October 21, the track will continue to be available for practice, weather permitting. Practice passes may be purchased at the back porch of the green house next to the track entrance, $10 for members and $20 for non-members. A practice pass must be purchased for each driver wanting to practice. Be sure the driver signs the pit pass waiver sheet when purchasing a practice pass.
The Mid-State Kart Club 2001 season awards banquet will held on November 3, 2001 at the Riverton Eagles Club starting at 6:00 pm. The 2002 season rules meeting and election of new officers will be held on November 11, 2001 at 1:00 pm at the Riverton Eagles club. Members are encouraged to attend and give their input for next years class structure. For more information and final point standings, see the club web site at www.midstatekartclub.com .
