"Intimidator Series wraps it up at Clingman Speedway"
By Bill & Julie Alger
CLINGMAN, NC - The Mountain Motor Sports sponsored event kicked off Saturday's races at Clingman Speedway and was the final race of the Intimidator Series, a three race event to honor the late Dale Earnhardt. Jeremy McHone blistered the Restricted Jr. field as he won his heat and feature event. To celebrate McHone made his way to the infield and did a few donuts before his victory lap. It was reminiscent of Earnhardt's win at Daytona when he did the donuts in the grass. Eric Goble finished second and Adam Jones finished third.
In the Piedmont Kart Shop Stock Light division a fierce battle entertained the crowd and resulted in several lead changes. However, Dallas Butner prevailed and steered his rocket into victory lane. Joey Fredell finished second and Landon Stultz finished third.
With one lap left of the Competition Karting, Inc Rookie Purple feature race, Zack Byrd made his move for the lead to capture the victory. Justin Jones finished second.
A full field in the Mountain Motor Sports Stock Medium race always produces tough competitors, but it was Joey Fredell who won the tough man contest and received the checkered flag. Josh Goble finished second and Randy Williams finished third.
Thomas Hill was able to keep Johnny Snow behind him and secured the feature win in the Stock Super Heavy division. Snow finished second and Wayne Hicks finished third.
Brian Doty and Tim Holloway swapped the lead several times but when the checkered flag fell, it was Holloway who was triumphant in the Limited Heavy division. Doty finished second and Johnny Snow finished third.
The Mastin Racing Engines Stock Heavy feature race guarantees three-wide racing, tight passes and other nail-biting action. Tyler Stultz has won the first two Intimidator Series feature events and the question on everybody's mind was could he sweep the series and win three in a row! Stultz answered back with a fast engine, calculated moves and perhaps a little Lady Luck by winning the feature race and yes, sweeping the series. Hard-charging Michael Holloway made his way through the field and was beginning to reel Stultz in but time was running out and Holloway settled in second place. Thomas Hill finished third.
Saturday's race was also the final points race for the Intimidator Series and like racing, it came down to the wire. We are proud to announce the 2001 Intimidator Series Champions: Stock Lite - Michael Holloway, Rookie Purple - Corey Morrison, Restricted Jr - Adam Jones, Stock Medium - Chris Tilley, Stock Super Heavy - Johnny Snow, Limited Heavy - Keith Whisenhunt, Jr Stock - Adam Jones, Stock Heavy - Michael Holloway.
