"Mid-State Kart Club celebrates 2001 Season Point Championships"
RIVERTON, IL - The Mid-State Kart Club held their 2001 season awards banquet at the Riverton Eagles Club on November 3. Following a potluck dinner, club President Rusty Barnard presented trophies to all club participants whom qualified for year-end awards. The point champion in each class also received a jacket. The kadet class participants all received trophies, jackets and a gift bag of toys compliments of the class sponsor, Renfrows Auto Parts. Also receiving awards were the fast time qualifiers. Following the awards ceremony, a DJ provided the entertainment for the evening. The final point standings are listed below.
The club rules meeting and the election of new club officers were held on November 11th. The new club officers are:
President: John McQuinn (217)364-4579
Vice President: Roger Chandler
Treasurer: Jim Dolian
Secretary: Les Cassity
Competition Board Members are Blain Ashmore, Joe Brittin, Mark Coats, Flynn McCormick
and Loren Neihaus
Following the election, the classes for the 2002 season were established. The club voted to hold 16 point races next season, with the best 12 counting toward season points. The new Bridgestone YHC tire will be required in all classes except for the oval classes, which have no tire rules. While most of the classes from last season will be retained, three new oval point classes were added. Several class weights were changed to more closely follow WKA rules. The Club will generally follow WKA tech rules including the requirement of CIK bodywork for the 2-cycle classes (except for Kadet and Jr. Sportsman which can run WKA Gold Cup style or CIK style body work). Kadet size frames will be legal for one more year in the Rookie and Kadet classes. The Yamaha Supercan class must run the RLV 7584 can next year. The HPV motor package is legal in the 2-Cycle Senior class with a 20-pound weight break (330 lbs.). The local club exceptions to the WKA rules will be printed in the 2002 Mid-State Program and Rulebook. The three new oval point classes are Junior I, Junior II and Briggs Heavy. More oval classes may be added if demand warrants it. A complete list of the 2002 classes will be available on the club web site at www.midstatekartclub.com.
The next general club meeting will be held on Dec. 11 at the Riverton Eagles club. 2002 club meetings will be held on the fourth Tuesday of each month at 7:00. Look for continued growth at Mid-State Raceway in the 2002 season as the club plans to add oval lighting and a new restroom/concessions building. More night races will be scheduled on Saturday night during the summer months. In addition to the club point races, several special events are planned including a WKA Mid-West Sprint Series race, a 4th of July oval money race, WKA regional speedway events, a SKUSA race, and possibly another oval series. The popular concession menu will also be back for the 2002 season. The concession stand will continue to be operated out of the base of the scoring tower until the new concession building is completed. Spectators will have access to the concession stand without needing to purchase a pit pass.
