"North American Karting Association launches government relations program for Karting industry"
PALM SPRINGS, CA - The North American Karting Association (NAKA) announced today the launching of a government relations program to assist the karting industry monitor legislative activity. With an expanding effort to 'protect the public', both state and federal legislatures are continuingly looking at leisure time activities and their potential hazards.
In the year 2000, state legislators introduced nine measures directly affecting the karting industry in the states of Arkansas, Nevada, Connecticut, Louisiana, Michigan, and Florida. The focus of the laws that were actually passed last year related to karting and fuel taxes, safety inspections, and sales taxes. In most instances, the karting industry was not aware of this legal intrusiveness into their business.
NAKA has contracted to monitor both new state and federal legislation enabling it to make the karting businesses aware of these proposed laws. Members of NAKA will be informed of the pending legislation so they may actively participate in the discussions of these laws with their legislators and proactively protect their business. We have seen the devastating impact to the off road and water sports industry by both state and federal government legislation that severely affected their businesses. NAKA has contracted to monitor and provide this information to its members utilizing a cooperative effort with the Motorcycle Industry Council office in Washington, D.C.
Beginning in January, NAKA members will receive a monthly report of all state and federal legislation that directly or indirectly affects the karting industry. This will inform and allow NAKA members to take proactive efforts to protect their business by making their concerns and knowledge available to their legislators. It is imperative that all businesses know of any and all pending legislation to ensure their future and success.
The North American Karting Association is a trade organization dedicated to growing and protecting the karting industry. Its members include manufacturers, importers, distributors, dealers, racetracks, and allied industries to the karting business.
