"Mason wins Stock Heavy at Clingman Speedway"
CLINGMAN, NC - Many die-hard fans endured the cold weather during the races October 27, 2001 at Clingman Speedway and the racers didn't disappoint them as they put on fast and exciting races.
Shawn Peche was triumphant in the Piedmont Kart Shop Stock Lite division as he grabbed the lead from the outside front row and held on to receive the checkered flag. Scottie Holloway finished second and Alan Armstrong finished third.
The Restricted Jr. division was witness to Kory Jarrett and Bobby Hatley in a tight battle as Jarrett attempted to defend the lead spot. When the checkered flag unfurled, it was Jarrett for the second week in a row clinching the victory. Hatley finished second and Brent James finished third.
Daniel Armstrong dominated the Competition Karting Rookie Purple division with Justin Hudspeth finishing second.
Scottie Holloway, repeating his hot streak from last week, led nineteen of the twenty laps and was awarded the victory in the Mountain Motor Sports Stock Medium feature race. Shawn Peche finished second and David Mason finished third.
Larry Martin showed no mercy on the other competitors of the Stock Super Heavy division as he won both his heat races and the feature race. Jimmy Goble finished second and Bobby Bebber finished third.
Several lead changes began to escalate until David Mason obtained the lead, which put an abrupt end to any other challengers in the Mastin Racing Engines Stock Heavy feature race. Following Mason across the line in second was Scottie Holloway and Thomas Hill in third.
As racing continued the following Saturday night, November 3, 2001, Rickie Holloway put on an outstanding display of his talent by winning the heat and feature races in the Piedmont Kart Shop Stock Lite division at Clingman Speedway. Shawn Peche finished second while Jeffrey Isenhower came across the line in third.
Although Jeremy McHone was victorious in his feature race, the win was under controversy and his motor had to be torn down. McHone proved to be legal and clinched the top spot in the Restricted Jr, division. Bobby Hatley finished second and Travis Hudspeth finished third.
First-time winner Lance Morrison received a loud cheer from his fan club as he received the Competition Karting, Inc. Rookie Purple feature race win. Justin Hudspeth finished second.
Shawn Peche had a difficult task keeping Randy Williams behind him as the two battled for the lead in the Mountain Motor Sports Stock Medium division. When flagman Dale Burr waved the checkered flag, Peche claimed the victory with Williams a close second. Josh Williams finished third.
Jerry King let the other Stock Super Heavy competitors battle for position as he led flag-to-flag and won his feature race. Jimmy Goble finished second and Larry Martin finished third.
Terry Mathis was triumphant as he claimed the feature win in the Limited Heavy division. Brian Doty finished second and Keith Whisenhunt finished third.
After several lead changes and a last lap pass, Brian Hicks received the checkered flag in the Mastin Racing Engines Stock Heavy division. Randy Williams finished second and Scottie Holloway finished third.
