"Leading Edge Motorsports/Greg Bell sign new S1 driver"
LODI, CA - Leading Edge Motorsports & Greg Bell are looking to extend their streak of being one of the top shifter teams in North America with the signing of Illinois S1 pilot and former motocross racer, Ron Joynt.
Bell hopes to continue his ability to select talented racers, though nationally unknown, and helping them become championship contenders. He has had this success with drivers Trevor McAlister and '00 ProMoto World Champion, Bobby Wilson, and feels Joynt can fill this role as well.
"He really impressed me in Barrie last year, especially considering he had a bad elbow," commented Bell. "It was his very first ProMoto Tour race, he wasn't 100% healthy and he was very impressive."
Joynt had sat much of the 2001 season out due to an elbow replacement surgery in January ('01). Although healing was expected to take 18 months, Joynt took to the track on a limited schedule and managed quite a few impressive runs, including his first ProMoto Tour appearance in Barrie, Canada where he ran consistently in the top five in his heat races.
"I have expectations of Ron being able to put it on pole and sweep the event at the very first event," said Bell. "He is definitely capable of that in top notch equipment and at full health."
Joynt is not taking the 2002 season lightly. After years as a privateer, he knows that working with a top team and having a tuner on hand is imperative to be successful on the professional level.
"It is encouraging knowing someone like Greg Bell believes in me," said Joynt. "It brings me a lot of confidence and I think we will be up front and turning some heads next year."
Leading Edge Motorsports will run Joynt in Formula S1 in the entire SKUSA ProMoto - Atlantic Region, SKUSA Great Lakes Region and selected events such as the "King of the Streets"/Rock Island Grand Prix. While Bell will be at these events as tuner to Joynt, the team will be able to offer technical support for customers.
