"McCullough wins 2nd Annual 100-Lapper at Bloxom Speedway"

BLOXOM, VA - The first annual 100 lapper held October 20, 2001 had one leader, the #99 of Stuart McCullough led all 100 laps to take the win. On October 20th, the second annual event took place but with a few changes. A smaller field of 13 karts started the Stock Heavy event. Four different leaders took their place at the front before the night was over. With Qualifying scrubbed by majority vote of the competitors, it was line up by random draw.

Delaware's Jamie Lewis led the group from the pole and led until lap nine. Seventh place starter and last year's winner Stuart McCullough put the #99 into second place by lap number two and moved to take the lead on lap number nine. When the first caution fell for the first segment pit stops the #99 still commanded the field with the #88 Phillip Williams second and the #7 of Corie and Charlie Marshall running third. An early race shuffle had pole starter #25 back in 6th. The #01 of Kenny Ayres and Kevin Thornes was showing a strong fourth place.

After pits all hit the oval again with McCullough leading all the way until lap 50. The #25 showed his strength by moving back to the lead for the next four laps but the #99 regained the lead again on lap number 55. The #88 running second was followed by the #13 of Ronnie Williams, Troy Davis, and Kirk Harrington rounded out the top three when the second segment ended with a pit caution on lap #66. Again the #01 followed in 4th after taking a brief lead though official credit is only given by taking the field back to the green flag.

The restart on lap 67 had the #99 taking a 15 kart lead until lap 73 when he spun out due to a throttle stuck wide open. The #99 brought out the caution taking him to the rear of the field. The #88 of Williams led the next two laps before relinquishing the lead to the #7 of Marshall. Marshall led 7 laps before the #99 had made his way through the field again to retake the lead on lap 83. A late race caution caused by the #01 and #7 found both of those karts restarting at the rear of the field. McCullough held on to the lead the remaining 17 laps to take the win and again receiving credit as the leader of each segment as they took their mandatory pit stops. The #88 of Williams was officially 2nd and the #01 of Thornes/Ayres was third. The top three finishers were the same as last year's event. Fourth place finisher was #40 Sam Nock and 5th place went to #8 J.R. White.

The #99 team would like to thank their sponsors ESVA Net, Chesapeake Reproductions and Lucas Underground Utilities for their help over the past few years in making a championship team. The #01 was sponsored by Hart's Garage and Thornes Marine. The Eastern Shore Kart Club would like to thank all of the local businesses that helped sponsor this season and hope they return for the 2002 season.
